Community Power Group has won a competitive award to provide solar power to the Chicago Housing Authority through a 2MW project to be constructed in southern Cook County as part of the Illinois Solar for All program. This project will be a ground-mounted solar facility that will provide approximately 4.4 million kWhs per year of solar power to residents at CHA properties in the Chicago Region, generating as much as 50% savings on each household’s electricity bill. The electricity generated by the solar facility will be virtually credited to subscribing households each month on their electricity bills, providing long term savings on monthly expenses. This project is also unique in that it will employ graduates of the Millenium Solar Training Academy in the installation of the solar facility. Millennium provides training to low-income residents of the Chicago and Cook County region on the basics of solar systems and installation, providing them the tools and certification to begin a career in the solar industry. Millennium graduates will be part of the installation team for this project, as well as several other projects in CPG’s pipeline. CPG is very excited to partner with the Chicago Housing Authority on this project, and to provide electricity bill savings to CHA residents! CPG has completed several projects in Illinois in the last several years, and appreciates all of our partners in that region including Millennium.
