Community Power Group and the Rivanna Solid Waste Authority partnered together to design and develop up to three (3) 1MWac solar facilities on the capped landfill at the Ivy Material Utilization Center. The project was unanimously approved at the Albemarle County Board of Supervisors meeting on Wednesday November 3rd. “I am thrilled that it’s finally happening!” said Board member Palmer. The project is expected to start construction in Spring 2023.

Community Power Group has a lot of experience for projects on capped landfills and is excited to add this one to the portfolio. Landfill solar projects pose several design challenges such as special mounting equipment to prevent penetration into the landfill cap but also numerous benefits such as no tree-clearing required and a good use of otherwise undevelopable space.

We won’t let this land(fill) go to waste!
